Mixing/mastering piano and strings

I normally record the piano via audio, and I'm thinking of using MIDI to record the strings, unless there is a better option 😄

I felt it can be tricky to mix real piano with "fake" strings but it is certainly possible. I think the most important part will be mixing the piano and having enough low-mid range available to be occupied by the strings (especially cello and viola). Usually, a good string library is already heavily mixed to begin with so you often don't need to do a lot except for making the strings and piano sound like they live in the same space which can be achieved with reverbs. Olafur Arnalds has some videos up on youtube where he goes through his pro tools sessions and actually also goes a bit into EQ. I can't remember how much but that man has more knowledge about this stuff than I could ever tell you :)

Actually I'm planning on using VST for both piano and strings which would be a lot easier for me when it comes to mixing them both, but I'll definitely check out Olafur Arnalds' videos as well to learn more about EQ. Thank you!
