Hi everyone. I'm back again for the third post today!
Recently, I decided to reboot my facebook page a bit as I was just copying and pasting content onto different socials to make life easier but I think my Facebook page had died. I tend to watch reels and videos on IG and read posts more in FB so I changed my approach.
I decided to do a new intro post to my followers and in it I started to talk about making music at school. Then it hit me that I had all my original hand written compositions lying about in a folder somewhere.
I found the folder and started to have a play through and I;ve shared some of these decades old pieces in some reels recently.
They are not wonderful but I really like the nostaglic trip of looking back to see what might have been going through my mind all those years ago or maybe what had inspired me.
It's also actually a question I ask in my interviews as well so I thought I would put the question to everyone here. What was your first piece you remember writing or recording and what inspired it.
Here is the reel of my first piece called "Cirrus". I explain more in the post on IG so I won't go through it again here!
If you have a photo or recording of you playing it or the sheet music it would be great to see where we all started!
Have a good one everyone
That's a great idea. I have some old compositions scribbled down somewhere.
I'll try to find my first ever composition I wrote down in 2003. I can still remember the name: Time is running out.
My latest release Sunday Afternoon Sky actually is a rework and improvement (at least to me😅) of a composition from 2005.
They were all written without any intention to be published and to be honest, I wouldn't have had any idea how to do that 20years ago...
For me it's my piece 'Farewell' which is super simple and short. i kinda forced myself to release it back then and i really didnt have much expectations for it. i'm actually surprised to see that it was streamed almost 300K times since.. and i barely play it anymore.
This only confirms that it doesn't matter what you think about a specific composition. you can never know for sure how people are going to react to it. You can spend a ton of time and work on a specific piece, have a great feeling about it and high expectations but then you get very poor results, and you can have 0 expectations on another one, put almost no effort on it and BOOM, it performs super well. quite frustrating lol.
